'If I had my life to live over again'

Harriet Lewis, cofounder of Boston-based Grand Circle Travel. sent the following e-mail to clients and other interested travelers. We think it's worth repeating verbatim:

"I'm a big believer in living life with no regrets. I think it's so important that we make the most of each day we're given, that we actively pursue the things in life that bring us the most happiness and pleasure. So when I came upon the following poem—written by Nadine Stair, of Louisville, Kentucky, when she was 85 years old—it really resonated with me:

If I had my life to live over again,
I'd dare to make more mistakes next time.
I'd relax. I would limber up.
I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances.

I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones…

If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.
I would go to more dances.
I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies.

"I hope you’ll find Nadine’s words as inspiring as I did. And whether you aspire to fill your days with more ice cream cones, merry-go-round rides, or freshly picked flowers, may you always live life to its fullest."

Harriet Lewis and her husband, Alan, have written a book about how they came to found and expand Grand Circle, a favorite of older travelers. a quarter-century ago. Its title: "Driving With No Brakes."
