Kids stay free in Portugal's pousadas

For those unfamiliar with the term, a pousada is a type of exclusive and often historic hotel located throughout Portugal. And this summer, youngsters can stay free at some of those pousadas. The maximum is two children, up to age 12, in their parents' room. The Kids Menu is free, with parents in the restaurant, and you can get a 25 percent discount on the second room for children. Pousadas making this offer are: Alcácer do Sal, Amares, Arraiolos, Beja, Braga, Condeixa-a-Nova, Estoi, Gerês, Guimarães (Sta. Marinha), Proença-a-Nova, Sagres, Santa Clara-a-Velha, São Brás de Alportel, Sousel, Torreira/Murtosa, Viana do Castelo, Vila Pouca da Beira and Vila Viçosa.

There's gold in them thar cards!

If you're visiting Anchorage this summer, look for the Gold Card, which is given to visitors when they check into their hotel or bed-and-breakfast if staying two or more nights. Visitors show the card to participating businesses for discounts or rewards. For instance, the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum is offering an aviation heritage poster; the Anchorage Museum is highlighting its “Gold” exhibit with a free gift; the Downtown Bicycle Rental is offering a discount on its Alaska Statehood Anniversary bicycle jersey; and the Flattop Shuttle is providing complimentary ice cream and bottled water for Gold Card holders on its $22 shuttle to Flattop.
